Our Olive Eggers can be speckled, solid or have a heavier bloom. We have bred up to 10 generations of Olive Eggers on our farm. Colors range from light olive, mustard yellow, deep olive and olive brown. Olive Egger dozens will be a mix of Back Cross Olive Eggs and F1 Olive Eggs.
Most of these tractors are set up to where our various generations of olive egger hens are bred back to roosters that are homozygous for the brown egg gene. This is in an effort to deepen the olive color seen in future offspring.
If olive eggs are already rather dark, those hens may be bred to a rooster that is homozygous for blue. This is done in an effort to maintain olive eggs in next generation.
F1 olive eggs will be either blue or brown. The chicks that hatch from them will lay Olive.
With each generation their is a risk of offspring inheriting two copies of the brown gene and thus laying brown eggs. We do our best to rotate out our roosters and breed the later generations back to blue layers. If you want guaranteed olive, please order our F1 Olive hatching eggs instead.
